Pioneer DJM-2000 mixer [ NEW 2010 ]
Pioneer will launch the latest model in their DJM mixer line this June.
The DJM-2000 takes advanced features – thought only possible in DJ software – and reinvents them in the physical world. Its intuitive layout will feel natural to existing Pioneer DJM users allowing creativity to flow.
With the recent arrival of Pioneer's new CDJ models, it seemed like only a matter of time before their DJM series would come in for a considerable upgrade. Six months on, and we're presented with the DJM-2000—the final part in Pioneer's quest for DJ booth status of "industry standard."
Undoubtedly the most imposing aspect of this new mixer offering is its heavy emphasis on effects. Roughly a third of the DJM-2000's interface is dedicated to the pursuit, with a 5.8 inch full-colour display relaying the results of your sonic mangling. Effects like delay, filter and phaser can be manipulated through a series of different beat-synched time intervals, while a total of six insert effects, including HP and LP filters, are available for each channel.
Where it could be said the DJM-2000 excels, however, is its ability to paint effects over three separate frequency bands, meaning that just getting to work on vocals or basslines becomes an exciting possibility. In Pioneer speak, this translates to what they are calling Frequency Mode, which sits alongside Sidechain Remix and various MIDI modes as the available "Performance Modes."
If you really fancy decking your DJ booth in the colours of Pioneer, the option of connecting up to four CDJ-2000s/900s and two laptops presents itself via their ProDJ LINK technology. In this case, a single computer with their rekordbox program installed can act as the digital crate for an entire set-up, operating over a LAN cable.
